Our Commitment to the Environment
New England's Greenest Flooring Contractor
Allegheny Contract Flooring has committed to becoming not only New England’s largest commercial flooring dealer but also New England’s greenest! In doing so we hope to become a catalyst for change in our industry and an example of what is possible for small business in general.

Carbon-Neutral Flooring
Our partnership with Carbonfund.org has allowed us to offset the carbon emissions of all of our commuting employees, all of our trucking, our heating, our electricity usage and our plane travel. Although we do not feel that carbon offsetting is the solution to our carbon-footprint, we do feel as though it is an appropriate intermediate action.
LEED Accredited Flooring Specialists
Our Membership in the U.S. Green Building Council is something that we take great pride in as an organization. Although the USGBC and it’s rating system, LEED, are by no means perfect, they offer a wonderful foundation of information on green building and unify a truly amazing cross-section of industries and environmental organizations. Our LEED Accredited Professionals on staff can successfully steward your LEED certified project.
Dedicated to Green Building
Our Office of Sustainability is located in Gloucester, Massachusetts and is dedicated to the ongoing research in green building. James Auditore, one of Allegheny’s owners stepped down from his position of CEO in early 2006 to become the companies Director of Sustainability. The first responsibility of this office is to rapidly transform our own operation into one that is sustainable and kind to the environment. In addition to transforming our own organization any assistance that we can provide to our customers will be offered at no charge.

Zero Waste to the Landfill Policy
To date, we have recycled more than 3,000,000 pounds of broadloom and carpet tile.
Where practical, some of this material is restored and donated to charitable and other not for profit organizations, some is reused in the carpet manufacturing process, and some finds new life in the form of such disparate items as park benches, automobile accessories and curb blocks.
None of it is disposed of in landfills. None of it is burned in incinerators. 100% is recycled.
Currently we are working with these partners:
Carpet America Recovery Effort
floore: The Tandus Carpet Buy-Back Program
Antron Reclamation Programs
Conigliaro Industries Total Recycling Services
Our One-Stop StarNet Recycling Program also alleviates the hassles that can be associated with environmentally responsible disposal. Because all you need to do is call us, and we take care of the entire process – from removal to compliance to certification – from there, We’ll:
Supply a comprehensive quote with no hidden expenses.
Have our trained and experienced staff remove your old flooring quickly and professionally.
Arrange transportation to our dedicated recycling center.
Provide proof that the material did not go to landfill.
Document the procedure and submit records for compliance.
Our Internal recycling program takes recycling to another level. Not only do we recycle our office paper, plastics and metals but we recycle all of the blue-prints from our estimating department, all of the plastic and paper wrappings that carpet is covered with and the cardboard tubes that carpet comes rolled around. It is our hope that in the coming years the manufacturers of flooring materials will put more thought into the environmental consequences of their packaging practices but in the mean time we are happy to help. These efforts divert thousands of lbs. of waste from landfill!
Specifying A Responsible Agent
When Allegheny is "Specified" as the Responsible Agent for recycling on the jobsite, we make sure that it gets done. Many times an architect will specify that the carpet is recycled, but in the field, the responsible parties never ensure this happens. Allegheny is different than the rest. We have a proven track record of accountability that can be verified by our colleagues.
